The first in an ongoing series of posts reporting scientific advancements which (seemingly) move us closer to a comic book life.
In 1974, Doug Moench and Rich Buckler created the cyborg character known as Deathlok The Demolisher for Marvel Comics. Among the fearsome-looking character's many enhancements was a bionic eye. As with many things, what then seemed something restricted to the realm of fiction is now closer to reality.
With the first human implant planned for 2013, Bionic Vision Australia has unveiled, and is in the process of testing, a prototype bionic eye which is being hailed as the most important development related to blindness since the Braille alphabet.
Here's hoping future development and implementation is successful. Read about it here.
